A retired FIFA referee and current FIFA Instructor Margaret Omondi will contest for the chairperson of the newly created Football Kenya Federation Busia County Branch.
Under the new structure all former branches created under Kenya Football Federation will cease to exist and instead Counties created as branches and sub counties as sub branches of the federation.
Speaking at the Busia County Stadium on Tuesday when she presented over Sh30, 000 to the widows of fallen former FIFA referee Juma Khayo being referees’ contributions; Omondi said she is ready to face her challengers.
“ I want Busia County to recover its lost glory in the game when teams from the county like Busia United could scare top teams including Gor Mahia at Busia Stadium,” she said.
Ms Omondi said she is determined to deliver on the mandate if clubs will give her an opportunity to serve them, adding that it will be her pride to see the county produce a team in top flight football.
Omondi, who last year sounded a warning on the few number of referees in the county, is happy that the trend has changed with the total number of referees increasing from seven to 40 across the county.
“With the national office set to undertake the Physical Endurance Test later this month, Omondi said her target of 60 referees still stands.
FKF Busia branch secretary Hillary Musundi also revealed that he would go for the position of Branch Secretary during the polls that are scheduled for this year.
