At least 103 passengers destined for Johannesburg in South Africa had their flight cancelled.
This is after there were rumors that there was a bomb in one of the luggage on board flight KQ 762.
A detective privy to the on goings at JKIA told Hot News that passengers in the Kenya Airways plane destined for Johannesburg had to be evacuated to safety at around 1.30 pm.
“There were two Ethiopian men who were boarding the flight. A Kq Hostess asked one of the men what was it he was carrying inside the plane since it was too heavy. One of the male passengers joked , “do you think its a bomb!,” the detective told Hot News.
The detective said the Hostess was scared and shouted that there was a bomb in the mans luggage.
The man had asked his Ethiopian colleague to help him place the small bag in the luggage compartment that is within the plane.
Sources at JKIA said frightened passengers disembarked from the plane.
Anti Terror Police and bomb specialists were called in and quickly conducted a search.
Those privy to the search said there was no bomb found .
The two Ethiopians were taken in for questioning by the Anti Terror police.
A detective who sought anonymity told Hot News the small bag contained floor and the Amharic traditional food.
“There were some red stuff like ground nuts- they resembled wheat. The Ethiopians said they were going to visit their friends over the Easter Holiday and explained why they had to carry the food,” the detective said.
By 4 pm on Wednesday, ATPU officers said in Liason with other stake holders, they had cleared the KQ plane and declared it safe.
