The Government has signed an agreement with Telkom Kenya and Google Loon to allow the Google loon balloons to access the Kenya Airspace to enhance 4G network coverage.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said this is to enable Kenyans access internet as they work from Home during the current lockdown as a result of COvid-19.
Addressing the Nation at State House Nairobi, the President said the internet will also help medics and those in self Quarantine talk to their relatives.
According to Wikipedia, Loon LLC is an Alphabet Inc. subsidiary working on providing Internet access to rural and remote areas.
The company uses high-altitude balloons in the stratosphere at an altitude of 18 km to 25 km to create an aerial wireless network with up to 4G-LTE speeds.
