Stanley Langat, a former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Narok, appeared in Kilgoris court on Monday, facing charges for shooting arrows at police officers.
The confrontation occurred while police were enforcing a court order to reopen a road that had been obstructed by Daniel Kipembeu Lepore, who had plowed part of the road and prevented residents from accessing their farms, including Orphan Job Roitei’s land.
Under the supervision of District Lands Registrar Tom Chepkwesi and Kirindoni Assistant County Commissioner Kelvis Mugutsu, efforts were made to clear the road.
During this process, a group known as G12, led by Langat, attacked government officials, journalists, and police officers.
This gang is associated with Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and operates from his 100-acre farm in Tarakwet village, Trans Mara South, Narok County.
The charge sheet alleges that Langat obstructed police officers from performing their duties and threatened to incite residents to attack them with arrows, sharp sticks, and bows.
He reportedly warned, “Hii tape measure ikatwe ama shida itatokea hapa, Mrushie hii watu mishale, hii tractor itachomwa,” indicating he would harm the police if they proceeded.
Langat faces a charge of obstructing police officers Inspector Patrick Karani, Constable Richard Kaimoi, Constable Joseph Njoroge, Constable Peter Onyango, Constable Moses Jahazi, and Constable Daniel Mwanzia.
The prosecution informed the court that Langat is also wanted in another case for threatening his wife, with his bond in that case already canceled.
Langat was granted bail with a bond of Sh 500,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh 100,000.
The case is scheduled to continue later this month.
The court heard that on September 13, 2024, at Tarakwet village in Transmara Sub-County, Langat and others created disturbances by threatening to order attacks on police officers with arrows, bows, and sharp sticks.
