Former Nairobi MCA’s have called on ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and end the current crisis at the Nairobi City County Assembly.
The Assembly has been rocked by chaos after two camps emerged.
There is a camp supporting Speaker Beatrice Elachi and another one wants her axed.
Last week, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai toured the Assembly.
They ordered the firearms licensing Board to cancel all firearm licenses held by the reps after they allegedly misused the arms.
Addressing a press conference at a Nairobi Hotel, the former reps led by one time nominated MCA Asha Abdi and Alexina Mudi said they empathize with the Vihiga County Assembly Speaker Hasna Mmbone Mudeizi and her Nairobi counterpart Beatrice Elachi.
They said the reps who want to impeach the two have lost out on opportunities to loot the Counties.
The former reps said women leaders are being undermined.
They condemned the current reps for “humiliating and demeaning” Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
“These protracted wars in Nairobi aimed at Speaker Beatrice Elachi are out of her support for Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS). NMS has brought water, security and better health facilities to ‘Wanjiku’,” said Abdi.
Mudi said the ongoing wrangles will continue delaying services to common citizens and hamper development in Nairobi following the transfer of functions.
“Speaker Elachi has been facing character assassination from her political detractors. They have ensured she falls out with other women,” Mudi said.
