The front runner for the Westlands Parliamentary seat Mike Gumo on Wednesday intervened and forced the NMS and the Police to halt the planned evictions of residents.
Gumo, who visited the NMS Director General Mohamed Badi in his office said the planned evictions on pretest that some residents had encroached on government land were going g to render hundreds homeless.
The NMS had planned to evict boda boda operators from the CBD, demolish several stalls long major roads and order their bulldozers to run over several slums in pretext that they are on government and private land.
The announcement was greeted with uproar.
Badi and Inspector of Police Hillary Mutyambai have traded barbs over the issue.
Each has denied being behind the scheme to render hundreds homeless.
From Badi’s office, the politician visited deep -sea slums in Parklands ward.
He condemned an earlier eviction done by a local developer.
Gumo promised to make a follow up in conjunction with the relevant authorities and ensure that justice is served and the people are compensated for the losses incurred.
He promised to start income generating activities that will lift the residents out of poverty, unemployment and hopelessness.
Deep-Sea Residents said they support his candidature.
They said they will ensure he wins the ODM party primaries and is given the ticket as the Azimio la Umoja candidate.
Currently, Gumo is the leading ODM candidate in Westlands.
All pollsters have ranked him ahead of the rest.
