Nairobi MCAs allied to Kenya Kwanza have vowed to disrupt the election of the County Assembly Speaker.
The reps complained that 7 candidates were unfairly locked out.
The jilted group is led by Waithaka Ward Rep Antony Kiragu.
They said the process was skewed.
According to Kiragu, the vetting process of a Speaker is similar to that of an MCA.
He said the requirements imposed by the Clerk Edward Gichana and other “political orphans” are unconstitutional.
In his communication on Wednesday, Gichana said 7 candidates did not comply with the requirements.
“We are sad that out of 24 people who picked the nomination papers, only two have been cleared to vie. We are aware that out of the nine who submitted their papers, seven have been locked out. The election of the speaker is conducted under the standing orders and the requirements are as those of a person vying for MCA,” Kiragu said.
Most of the candidates were locked out for lacking a certificate of good conduct.
The Kenya Kwanza team vowed to stop the process until the rest of the candidates are cleared.
“The technical committee in its report indicated that the application forms for Benson Mutura were not accompanied by the current certificate of good conduct but a payment receipt was attached. He also did not attach a tax compliance certificate,” the notice from the Clerk read.
The clerk indicated that he contacted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the Director of Criminal Investigations, and the Kenya Revenue Authority seeking the clearance status of those who had submitted the papers but they did not respond on time.
According to the set timelines, Gichana notified the elected members that only two candidates including Ken Ng’ondi of Azimio One Kenya and Hassan Robow Mohammed qualified to vie for the post.
Those locked out of the race include Brian Mutie, Ahmed Dubon Subanea , Benson Kang’ara Mutura, Arthur Ndungu Ngugi and Samwel Mokua Masaki .
Others are Azimios Austine Ooko Okello and Charles Kio Muratha.
