Ex OlJororok MP John Murriithi Waiganjo has converted one section of his House into a restaurant and bar.
He served as MP between 2013 -2017 and is a lawyer by profession.
The establishment called Plant House is on the Eastern Bypass in Membley estate just after the intersection of the Eastern bypass and the Northern bypass as one heads to Ruiru.
Residents said with his family of six children and his wife, he occupies the house as well as sells alcohol.
On 29th October 2020, residents of Membley Daykio wrote to the Ruiru Sub-County administrator, Deputy County Commissioner, Ruiru Sub county and the Kiambu County CEC for Lands, Housing and physical planning complaining about the development.
The night club has been set up on plot number LR 14870 /12 and 14870/13 by one John Muriithi Waiganjo at Membley Daykio estate in Ruiru Subcounty, Kiambu County.
“The restaurant and bar are being operated within the controlled development area (Low density development area,” Engineer J. Wagai the chairman of the association wrote in the complaint letter.
Wagai said the restaurant and bar being commercial ventures are contrary to the bylaws and covenants of the estate.
They called on the National government and the Kiambu County government to close the club.
The residents complained of loud music from the establishment and their children being exposed to alcohol and strangers who patronize the club.
They also empathized with Waiganjo’s children.
On 19th October 2020, Ruiru Sub County administrator Stephen Kiiru wrote to the Association saying they had received the complaint.
“From our level, we have constituted a technical team to visit the subject premises on 21st October 2020 to investigate your allegations,” Kiiru said.
However, the residents said since then, no action has been taken and that the establishment has continued to operate.
Some of them said the ex-MP who is a commissioner with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, has been bragging that he is untouchable.
The residents added that local authorities and the police cannot also act because he always invokes (IPOA).
The establishment neighbors High Court Judge Imaana Laibuta’s residence.
A visit to the Plant House, revealed that it’s a residential House as well as a bar and restaurant.
Several cars belonging to revelers were parked outside.
At the reception, which is the leading door to the residential house, there is a young girl believed to be Waiganjo’s daughter who is of school going age, she ushers in patrons and shows them around.
One is not allowed to access the main house.
Tents have been put in the gardens which are well trimmed with palm trees and lush green grass.
One can sit in any of the tents and be served.
The gazebo in the compound has been converted into a kitchen and bar area.
The toilet outside the house is the one used by patrons.
Several speakers have been placed strategically within the compound where soothing music emanates from.
Near the reception, there is a tent for the DJ.
Also at the entrance, there is a kid playing area where the patrons can pay and have their children play.
“Recently, we can host upto 150 people just behind here. We welcome everybody here,” said a lady manager at the Plant House.
