Few days after the hard-fought win against Sony Sugar fc, it has emerged that the Kenya Premier league side Afc Leopards sought divine intervention from a team of over 15 religious leaders in Kakamega.
The leaders prayed and counseling the players and officials.
Bishop Johnstone Wandera of Dominion of Christ ministry and Rev Nicholas Olumasai of Kakamega Fellowship led a group of other religious leaders in offering the prayers before and after Leopards home match against Sony Sugar in Bukhungu stadium on Saturday.
Speaking after the match, Bishop Wandera said the “bad spell” that has persistently bedeviled the club is now “gone for good”.
Wandera said that Ingwe was now going to finish in a better position and produce good results in coming matches.
“As spiritual leaders, we want to urge our local clubs to seek God first and avoid subjecting their players to ungodly rituals that have no significance,”
“Some of us have remained soccer fans for many years and we cannot just stand and watch as things get from bad to worse, African teams would have remained dominant in world cup championship if witchcraft indeed was working we should learn from this, let our teams be advised to seek only the living God,” Wandera urged.
The Religious leaders also called upon the team administrators to operate in an open and transparent way if they are to win.
They appealed to the team to consider hosting their home matches in Bukhungu stadium and to the Western leaders and politicians to rally behind the team which has remained a unifying factor in the region.
Afc Leopards which had lost six matches saw striker Wayiyeka Tatuwe score in the 47th minute to give his side a deserved 3 points and Cassa Mbugo his first victory after taking over the club as manager few weeks ago.
