Women in Busia County have a reason to smile after the County Government launched cervical cancer screening at only shs 100.
Busia County Director of Medical Health Dr Janerose Ambuchi asked residents to take advantage of cancer screening facilities to visit any nearest hospital at least once a year for cancer screening.
She said women will be charged only shs 100.
Over the weekend, 36 health staff from the County underwent a three-day induction course on cervical cancer screening at the Busia County Referral Hospital.
The staff drawn from all health institutions across the county were taken through theory and practical lessons by two oncologists from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).
The Dr Ambuchi said the training of staff from health institutions across the County was meant to have them gain more skills on cervical cancer screening.
“Early cervical cancer screening will enable mothers and girls of reproductive age get early diagnosis, thus achieve remission,” she said.
She added that late screening will subject the victims to palliative care.
Dr Ambuchi said with the training, all dispensaries, health centers, Sub County and Busia County Referral Hospitals will be able to carry out routine screening of cervical or breast cancer.
She said advanced cases are referred to MTRH.
The CDMS said the trained staffs are now well equipped to handle cancer cases, thus the need by mothers and girls to ensure they know their cancer status early.
“The training I have acquired will enable me help women of reproductive age who need screening services,” a trainer Zacharia Muliro said.
Sharon Anyango and Josephine Friday thanked the County Government for according them an opportunity to train on cervical cancer screening and for putting measures in place to avail all hospitals with cancer screening equipment.
