Miss Ateker Teso 2019 Hellen Ajulu has unveiled four projects aimed at protecting children.
She said she wants to see children succeed in life.
She was addressing the 12th Iteso Cultural Festival 2019 at Kakapel National Monument and Cultural Centre on Thursday.
The Teso beauty pageant said for the projects to succeed, it will depend on the support she will receive from the political wing and other well-wishers.
“My first project is to promote education in our community, I will fight to end early pregnancies and ensure the school dropout rates among our girls have reduced drastically,” she said.
Miss Ajulu said the second project is for protection of boy-child. “I will avail material support to make them feel cared for,”
Her third project is to lead tree planting campaign in schools and villages as part of the County and National Governments’ campaign to conserve the environment and attain the recommended forest cover of 10 per cent.
“My final project is on menstrual hygiene; I will use my crown to solicit for funding to ensure girls who have reached their menses do not miss classes because of their inability to buy sanitary towels,” she said.
Miss Ajulu, from Amukura in Teso South, urged the youths to promote the Iteso and African cultures and shun the Western culture which she described as retrogressive.
Ajulu represented Kenya and Uganda at the Miss Ateker Grand Finale in Southern Sudan recently where she was crowned second runners up.
She also won the Miss Ateker Peace 2019/2020.
Teso North MP Oku Kaunya lauded the beauty pageant for unveiling her plans and pledged to support her initiatives through the National Government /Constituency Development Fund.
To achieve gender parity, the MP said half of 25 students who will be sponsored for specialized courses including Engineering, Law and Medicine, through CDF funding must be girls.
