A newly established group called the Mt Kenya Youth Lobby has expressed strong support for Kithure Kindiki, the Interior CS, following his recent endorsement as the kingpin of Mt Kenya East.
The group, led by Raphael Muraguri from Meru, praised Kindiki’s track record in development and his commitment to uniting the region.
Muraguri highlighted that unlike some leaders from other areas of the region, Kindiki is dedicated to fostering unity rather than division.
He emphasized the need for Mt Kenya East to have its own representative and voice, criticizing past leadership from Nyeri and Kiambu as ineffective.
The endorsement from the youth lobby aligns with recent backing from elected leaders across Mt Kenya East, including representatives from Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Meru counties.
In a press conference, these leaders collectively supported Kindiki as a key liaison between the region and the Executive branch of government.
The endorsement list included notable figures such as Mpuru Abuuri (Tigania East), Elizabeth Karamu (Woman Rep Meru), Geoffrey Ruku (Mbeere North), John Mutunga (Tigania West), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Senator Alexander Mudigi (Embu), Dan Kiili (Igembe Central), Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka), Pamela Njoki (Embu Woman Rep), Kareke Mbiuki (Maara), and Mugambi (Buuri).
This move comes amid ongoing debates and competition within the Mt Kenya region over leadership, with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also vying for prominence.
Gachagua’s efforts have faced opposition from various local leaders.
