Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has lifted some austerity measures that were geared towards combating the spread of Covid-19.
Uganda has recorded 1070 cases with no single death.
In a state of the Nation Address on Tuesday evening, Museveni sanctioned the immediate reopening of 110 out of 230 arcades that have complied with the set guidelines.
He also gave a nod for immediate reopening of salons but on condition that they avail masks for everybody.
Salons should also have face shields for “surgeons”, handwashing facilities and temperature guns with no air conditioners.
Boda boda riders were cleared to start carrying passengers starting July 27th, 2020 on condition that the passenger wears a mask.
The rider should have a helmet and mask and with a record book of all passengers he/she is carrying to facilitate contact tracing in case the rider contracts Covid-19.
They are always also required to sanitize passenger seats and if possible, have thermo guns.
They will be allowed to operate up to 6pm.
Although Kenya has allowed resumption of churches, President Museveni asked the Inter-religious council to discuss with scientists on modalities before they can reopen.
Reopening of schools in September looks uncertain with Museveni encouraging distance learning.
He also extended a ban on international flights and the closure of borders.
The President suspended NSSF contributions for private schools and offered USh 2b to private schools saccos to cushion them against Covid-19 pandemic.
He defended his move to have the UPDF to guard Lake Victoria against bad fishing.
