Several ODM MPs on Friday held a fundraiser and were able to raise shs 20 million to support Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol maintain his seat.
Speaking at a local Hotel in Siaya town, the MPs said they will also go to court and file a constitutional petition against Siaya Governor James Orengo.
They said they will ask the Courts to declare Orengo unfit to hold office after he sponsored MCAs to impeach Oduol.
The MPs also said they will ask the President to suspend the County Government of Siaya under article 192 of the constitution.
According to article 192,
(1) The President may suspend a county government–
(a) in an emergency arising out of internal conflict or war;
or
(b) in any other exceptional circumstances.
The MPs said if the conflict between Oduol and Orengo persists, they will have no option to persuade the President to suspend the Siaya County Government.
Immediately the Senate overturned a decision by the MCAs to impeach Oduol , the reps took their battle to the High Court in Siaya.
In a notice of motion filed by Ukwala MCA Peter Oduor, the Ward representatives unanimously agreed that they should file a constitutional petition against Oduol.
On May 29TH, 38 MCAs voted for Mr Oduol’s ouster against one.
On 26th June, Oduol survived impeachment after 27 out of 43 senators voted to keep him in office.
Senators allied to President William Ruto openly supported Oduol while those allied to opposition leader Raila Odinga sought to have him impeached.
“It’s almost one year since they were elected in office. We are patiently waiting for the lapse of two years and we will recall both Governor James Orengo and his MCAS. If they dare block Oduol from getting into office, we will also use all means available to deal with them,” said one of the MPs.
The MPs who contributed cash to save Oduol include Langata’s Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o, Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda , Suba South Caroli Omondi , Gems Elisha Odhiambo among others.
