The Principal of Katelenyang Secondary School Joseph Mulongo escaped death narrowly when his stationery vehicle was rammed into from behind by a trailer at Koteko road block in Teso North Sub County.
The principal came out of the wreckage unhurt; he is currently taking a rest in his house, leaving his deputy Pius Ekwenye to run the school.
Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Chairman Mr David Maase blamed the incident on the traffic snarl up along the busy Bungoma-Malaba road.
The wreckage was towed to Malaba Police Station.
“The unfortunate incident will not affect students of the school who are sitting the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Exams that will end on November 28th, 2019,” he said.
The KESSHA boss said this year’s exam was unique for the region as there are no incidents where some students are sitting for their exams in hospitals; this is due to guiding and counseling from parents and discipline.
Maase cited infrastructure challenges in most schools, urging the National Government to avail more facilities to schools in the region.
The County Government introduced laptop awards to students who score “A” plain in KCSE, but since 2016 no student has scored an “A”.
Maase said they are going to break the jinx by scoring at least 2As, noting that they have benchmarked with top performing schools.
