A group of professionals from Chogoria, Maara Sub-county have condemned gruesome murder of one of their members who was found dead last week in a maize plantation at Ganga Ward.
The professionals under their outfit known as Lower Chogoria Elites Foundation (LOCEF) through a press statement sent to newsrooms said the killer of Gitonga Kamuta, should be arrested and arraigned in court.
According to the statement signed by the organization’s chairman Munene Mugambi, Kamuta was a dedicated member.
Mugambi called on the police to speed up investigations and urged residents to respect the rule of law.
Mugambi is also the founding chairman of the Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya that brings together practioners in the Criminal Justice Sector.
He said LOCEF is a registered outfit that empowers the community through its Corporate Social Responsibility.
“It is hardly six months since the killing of a youth popularly known as “Sabbi” in this area. We are aware of another incident in Nturiri two months ago where a boy from Kariakomo was also killed in cold blood.” Mugambi said.
He said as an organisation, they are concerned that the same community where they are trying to support the less fortunate and empower the youth is facing serious insecurity challenges.
He called on the local administration to move with speed to protect lives.
Speaking to Hot News on phone,Maara sub-county police commander Jarson Mohammed condemned the incident and promised to pursue the suspect.
“I am aware of the case. It is under investigation, but the suspect is still at large.” Mohammed said.
He promised to beef up security in the area following complaints from residents after two other people were killed recently under unclear circumstances.
“I am not aware of the previous murder cases since I am new in the area, but I promise to tighten security.” Said the police chief.
