Siduduma said the Rwambua -Mau Mau road which is a stretch of 13 kilometers has been washed away by the flood waters.
“The lakes backflow has affected half of Bunyala South. Here 100 families have been rendered homeless. In Ginga West, a total of 80 families are homeless,” he said.
Sididuma said homes have been submerged and several schools relocated.
Musoma Primary and Secondary schools have been relocated.
Other area affected are Lukala, Runyu, Musoma, Mabinyu, Buluma, Siganga, Nabera, Mukhunga and Lung’ofu.
“The last time we had a consultative meeting, we were told the backflow is due to climatic changes. However, this is a regional problem, and we are appealing to the Kenyan government to lobby its regional neighbors Tanzania and Uganda and come up with a long-lasting solution,” Siduduma said.
He also called on the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and appealed to development partners like the US Aid to intervene.
The residents are at risk of contracting water borne diseases like typhoid and Bilharzia.
