Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi has asked the youth to ensure they acquire technical skills.
He said youths who have technical skills never lack anything to do and it’s rare to find them jobless.
The MP was speaking while officiating over the Westlands Sub-County first term drama festivals at Kilimani primary school.
Wanyonyi donated twenty trophies to the various category winners.
He said that all education stake holders should not ignore co-curricular activities but ensure they help the students exploit their talents.
Wanyonyi said co-curricular activities boosts children’s physical and mental health and also improve student learning experience.
He gave an example of footballer MacDonald Mariga who was the first Kenyan to play in the UEFA champion’s league asking the youth to ensure they exploit their talents.
Wanyonyi added that he is happy with the new education system since students will be judged based on their competence and not knowledge which in most cases many people cram things.
He said education CS Amina Mohamed should ensure there is a smooth transition from the current 8-4-4 system which is knowledge based to the proposed 2-6-3-3 which is competence based.
