Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said that City Hawkers have a reason to smile since they will be able to occupy new modern markets.
Sonko posted on his facebook that his administration in conjunction with NAMSIP (Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project) is finalizing construction of Karandini modern market in Dagoretti North Constituency.
He said the construction of the modern market will be completed in the next few months.
Other markets under construction are Mwariro Market in Starehe, New Wakulima Market along Kangundo road and Uhuru Market along Jogoo road.
“Habari Yenu watu wangu hii ni progress of ongoing construction of Mwariro market in Ziwani/Kariokor Ward in Starehe Constituency. Hawkers will be moved to a permanent location once construction of Mwariro market is complete” Sonko said.
He said the construction of the market is being funded by the World Bank under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (Namsip) and is expected to be complete in the next 2 Months.
