Acting Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu’s office has been allocated shs 5 billion in the 2021-2022 financial year.
This is a as per the Nairobi City County Appropriation Act, 2021.
City Halls total budget for the 2021-22 financial year is almost shs 40 billion.
The act authorizes both the County government and the National Government through NMS to spend shs Sh. 39,377,536,000 out of the County Revenue Fund for public services and purposes of the year ending 30th June 2022.
“The amount required in the year ending 30th June 2022 for the following programmes of the Office of Governor and Deputy Governor. General Administrative Services 2,586,017,928, Security and Safety Management 1,321,423,296, Disaster Management Coordination 501,346,845, Management of Legal Affairs 602,614,439” read the appropriation bill.
The total amount allocated to Kananu’s office is shs 5,011,402,510.
The allocation means she will have some powers and influence at City Hall.
The rest of shs 35 billion is for the NMS.
A total of shs 26,465,696,684 will be used for re-current expenditure.
In the last financial year, the NMS used a total of shs 12.1 billion on its development programmes.
The total development budget for Nairobi County has been put at shs 12.9 billion.
The Nairobi County Assembly has been allocated shs 1.5 billion.
The Education, Youth and Social Services will use shs 1.8 billion.
Finance and Economic planning will spend shs 2.1 billion and County Public Service shs 1.9 billion.
The 85 wards in Nairobi will be developed at shs 1.4 billion and the controversial legal affairs shs 602millon.
