Speaker of the County Assembly Benson Mutura adjourned the Assembly (Sine Die).
This means the Assembly was adjourned without any future date being designated (as for resumption).
The IEBC is expected to gazette the candidates to participate in the August elections.
However, the budget making process wasn’t complete when the Assembly adjourned.
The Budget estimates for Nairobi County were tabled on 31st May and were committed to the Budget and Appropriations committee.
The committee is expected to retreat to Mombasa and harmonize the estimates to be in line with all the Sector requirements.
The estimates are also expected to be in line with the County Allocation Revenue Bill that was recently passed by the Senate.
Then after, the committee will bring the estimates to be approved by the whole House which will be recalled during a special sitting.
In his communication, Speaker Mutura said there is no cause for alarm since a special siting will be gazetted in order to pass the budget.
Several MCAs had complained that services in the County will come to a halt since the Assembly had been adjourned without passing the budget.
“All services will go on uninterrupted and those spreading propaganda that things will come to a stop are lying. Everything is ok and the law is clear,” a senior official at City Hall told off the reps who were panicking.
