Mowlem ward MCA Benson Mwangi has been suspended from City Hall for three months working calendar after he hurled unprintable words against Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
The suspension means he won’t attend committees where MCAs earn an allowance, go for ny trip outside the Country, he will have to pay for parking like ordinary Kenyans because he can’t Park where MCAs park among other privileges.
Mwangi denied the allegations and asked the Assembly leadership to review CCTV footage to get the truth.
“You cannot cure witch-hunt through the legal process. We were three of us, none was summoned to give evidence. I was summoned in the morning and in the evening suspended. No procedures were followed,” he said.
He said MCAs supporting his suspension are ready to give false evidence.
South C MCA Osman Khalif confirmed the incident and said Mwangi also threatened him of “dire consequences”.
“Mwangi has also threatened to deal with me. I want to tell all my colleagues to respect each other even if you don’t love the latter,” Osman said.
Osman also warned male MCAs from abusing and humiliating their female counterparts.
The Assembly resolved to suspend Mwangi for his unbecoming behavior.
According to Osman, Mwangi was also heard insulting the chairperson of the Powers and Privileges Committee Naftali Mathenge who doubles up as Githurai rep.
Nairobi West rep Maurice Gare said they are tired of leadership wrangles and that before their term ends in 2022, they should articulate fully and fix the problems facing City residents.
Gatina Ward MCA David Ayoyi said Elachi’s security should be beefed up.
“It’s disrespectful for Mwangi to utter such words. We won’t allow Elachi to be impeached,” he said.
Majority leader Charles Thuo condemned the incident.
Kibera’s Laini Saba rep Cecilia Auyot said it’s disappointing for men to assault ladies more so after the recent International Womens Day.
She urged those plotting to impeach Elachi not to do so.
Mwangi follows Kileleshwa Ward rep Elias Otieno and Airbase Ward MCA Fuad Mohammed on a three-month work calendar suspension.
They were suspended this week due to absenteeism.
