City MCAs have condemned violence meted on women by men.
They said the Country should be worried of increased cases of women being assaulted.
The increasing cases of gender-based violence have forced nominated MCA Wanjiru Kariuki to come up with a bill dubbed Nairobi City County Sexual and Gender Based Violence Management and Control Bill, 2019.
The Bill is at second reading stage.
The Bill provides measures for awareness, prevention, protection, treatment, counselling, support and care for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
The Reps want victims of gender-based violence to be attended to first while at police stations and hospitals.
They want the police to hasten the issuance of P3 forms.
Mugumu-Ini MCA Jared Akama said the Nairobi Community Health volunteers’ must be taught how to attend to victims of gender-based violence and sexual assault.
Nominated MCA Anita Thumbi called for public awareness on sexual and Gender based violence in schools, churches and local Baraza’s.
Kabiro MCA Clarence Munga called on the executive to allocate funds for the prevention, control and management of sexual and gender-based violence.
MCA Wanjiru Kariuki said the case in court involving Kajiado’s Eastmatt Supermarket supervisor Ibrahim Taraiya who assaulted a female teller will serve as an example to many.
She said she was happy cases of FGM among the Maasai, Borana and other Nilotic speaking communities are declining.
