All is not well at City Hall.
Two camps have emerged among the staff and the Ward reps.
One camp is supporting Governor Anne Kananu whereas another is opposed to her style of leadership.
A group of Reps and staff led by Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu criticized Kananu for not paying suppliers on time.
Kiragu and Utalii Ward Rep Wilson Ochola accused Kananu of paying a few suppliers huge sums of money and leaving out the rest.
They said since Kananu took office, corruption and embezzlement of County funds is the order of the day.
The two reps called on the EACC and the DCI to probe all payments made by Kananu’s administration to suppliers saying she has been paying her cronies whom she expects to fund her political activities.
Kiragu and Ochola scolded their colleagues who are defending Kananu over the allegations of poor leadership.
“My colleagues know how much Kananu has embezzled County funds. However, they are playing politics with this matter and don’t want her to be reprimanded,” Kiragu said.
However, Kware Ward MCA Rose Kula said the two are attacking Kananu because she’s a woman and that they are malicious.
“It’s sad how a section of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) members have come together to attack the Governor. Their claims are baseless. We know they don’t want women leaders in the County. We will defend Kananu because she’s our fellow woman,” Kula said.
She added that Kiragu and Ochola know where to report the complaints if indeed their claims are true.
Imaara Daima Ward Rep Kennedy Obuya said it’s malicious to say Kananu has embezzled County funds without providing evidence.
Obuya and those supporting Kananu asked Ochola and Kiragu to apologize to the Governor for tarnishing her name.
