City MCAs have passed a motion compelling Governor Johnson Sakaja to set aside shs 1.5 million for the rehabilitation of each Social Hall in Nairobi.
Harambee MCA Antony Kimemia who moved the motion on Wednesday said the Social Halls in the County are dilapidated.
“Holding public meetings in these social halls is becoming unbearable; the floors are worn out, most of them lack electric power, some are incomplete while others lack lavatories. I urge the county government to set aside sh 1.5 million per ward in the 2023/2024 financial year for rehabilitation of these halls,” he said.
Kimemia told Hot News that if the County can rehabilitate the social halls, over 5,000 youths would be employed as they generate revenue from the centers.
“If the County Government can equip these social halls with computers and other equipment that can boost startups among the young people, the rate of unemployment will come down,” he said.
He added that most of the Halls are inaccessible by people living with disabilities and the county should make them ‘disability friendly’.
