Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said that some of the dilapidated County roads will soon be repaired on Government to Government contracts.
Sonko said the heavy rains have rendered some roads in the City impassable.
He said the County Government is aware of the situation and is working round the clock to repair the roads.
On Tuesday, Sonko said that the County Government of Nairobi roads team held a “very successful meeting with the DG NYS”.
He said the meeting is aimed at establishing Government-to-Government (G2G) contractual agreements where the NYS will undertake rehabilitation of roads across the city following the recent long rains.
Sonko said the NYS will also undertake garbage collection in areas that have recently been neglected by sobataging contractors.
Several contractors have been dumping garbage on the City streets and roads to sabotage Governor Sonko.
“This arrangement has been necessitated by the urgency to fix the dilapidated roads, at a cheaper cost and through a faster process, since G2G contracts do not undergo the normal, lengthy procurement process,” he said.
Last week, Sonko warned that he will not entertain “sabotage from his staff”
Several City MPs, businesspeople and contractors have ben sabotaging Governor Sonko so that it looks as if he has ailed.
He called on the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) to also fixe their roads.
