City Stadium was renamed Joe Kadenge Stadium in a chaotic session at the Nairobi City County Assembly.
The motion was tabled by nominated MCA Kabiro Mbugua.
In July during a funds -drive to offset the funeral expenses of Joe Kadenge at Charter Hall, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga said he had spoken to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He added that they both agreed with Governor Mike Sonko to fast track the process.
While tabling the motion, Kabiro was disrupted by a few Jubilee MCA’s allied to embattled Matopeni MCA Abdi Guyo who are opposed to Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
Some reps shouted “Guyo must Go” whereas others chanted “court order”.
The Court order was obtained by Clerk Jacob Ngwele after Elachi suspended him over “insubordination”.
However, some reps said the Court order was forged.
A section of Jubilee MCAs later walked in protest.
The remaining reps debated and adopted the Motion.
Joe Kadenge is a former football legend who played for the National Team Harambee Stars.
He was famed for “Kadenge na Mpira”.
