A section of City Youths has come out to celebrate Governor Mike Sonko’s move to waive single business permits fees for Youths and people living with disabilities.
The youths said the move is welcome since it will help them save the cash to re-invest in their “small businesses”.
Led by Westlands Youth leader Evans Ochieng and Livingstone Ibwaga, the youth commended the Governor for the move.
On January 31st, Governor Mike Sonko issued an executive order number 1 of 2020 to Nairobi County Secretary Leboo Morintat ordering him to waive the fees for youth and persons living with disabilities.
“One of the greatest impediments to the realization of the youth’s dreams and aspirations is the many licenses and permits they must acquire from various levels of Government, including the Nairobi City County Government to be operational. Most of the youth are unable to meet these requirements as they struggle to capitalize their startups,” Sonko said.
Sonko instructed Leboo to waive all licenses fees for new businesses registered by the youth and persons with disabilities for a period of two years from the date of registrations.
Sonko said the order is in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s and the National Government’s commitment to access to Government Procurement opportunities (AGPO).
He said this will help create employment for the youth and to improve Kenya’s ease of doing business index that currently ranks Kenya at number 56 up from number 136 in 2014- according to the world bank.
