Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was last week forced to hand over a school buses to Embakasi Garrison Secondary school after a public outcry.
Those close to the MP said he issued the buses through the Embakasi East CDF after the public accused him of incompetence.
Two other schools that were promised buses are yet to get them.
Last month the residents demanded the buses when the MP was in remand.
Parents and students from three secondary schools condemned him for abandoning them at the expense of “clubbing”.
The parents told the Media that they are disappointed with the conduct of their MP who shot a dejay in a pub in Kilimani.
They said that they do not want to empathize with the MP who was in remand then.
Babu Owino was remanded for 7 days awaiting his bail ruling.
He was released on shs 10 million bond which was reviewed downwards to shs 5 million.
The DJ is still bedriden.
He was arrested after he shot the DJ at B-Club.
Parents from Utawala Secondary, Embakasi Garrison Secondary and Mihango Secondary school said that they were promised school buses four years ago, but they have received none.
They said then that the three schools were to get a 52-seater bus each.
They said they fear Babu Owino either diverted the shs 21 million meant for busses or embezzled it.
“Each bus was to cost shs 7 million. It was budgeted for in the CDF in the financial years 2016-2017. However, after the buses were not bought and delivered, the money was carried forward to the next financial year,” said Tom Makori a parent at Embakasi Garrison Secondary school.
Another parent Janet Mwangi said some of the students who were excited about the bus have since finished school and joined University without seeing the buses.
A CDF official who requested anonymity for fear of being victimized said the buses were budgeted for but have never been bought and delivered to schools.
She said in the current CDF budget, there is nothing like cash for buses.
Its not clear if Babu has diverted cash meant for other projects because the purchase of buses isn’t in this year’s budget.
He has promised to deliver the remaining two buses before end of June.
Mihang’o Secondary School Principal Peter Ndiritu said they were promised a bus by the former CDF but never received.
“If you are promised something, you have to be patient. We are stuck and don’t know if indeed we will ever get the bus. Initially, the idea came through the former CDF committee but when Owino became the MP, it looks like the idea died,” he said.
Ndiritu added that that the school doesn’t have a bus and its expensive for the students to hire buses whenever they are going for trips.
He said the parents are complaining because they are always asked to fund the student’s trips.
Utawala Secondary School head Petronila Mumo said “These political things, you have to wait until you see first then you believe,”
