Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said Kenya needs to fight corruption and end bad politics in order to develop.
Sonko said financing urban infrastructure development and improvement of services needs more funds.
Speaking in Mombasa during the Kenya Cities Forum, Sonko said corruption and bad politics scare potential partners and investors who want to collaborate with governments in urban development programs.
The forum aims to find options available for the financing of urban infrastructure development.
“We have to deal with some of these challenges if we have to achieve all these that we are planning for our major cities and towns,” Sonko said.
Sonko said the growing Rural-Urban migration should be a major concern for the national and county governments.
He added that, requisite measures have to be put in place to provide necessary infrastructure, employment and other basic services.
He said Nairobi’s population has risen to six million, calling for increased financing to provide housing, health, transport and food.
The Governor highlighted the partnership between the World Bank and Nairobi County in building new modern markets that will provide job opportunities for the growing population.
