A former nominated MCA Bernadette Wangui Nganga has turned down Governor Mike Sonkos job offer.
On 24th May 2019, Sonko appointed Wangui to be a member of the Nairobi City County Betting, Licensing and Regulation Board, for a term of three years.
However, the former MCA who failed to make it as the Nairobi Women rep in the last elections wrote to Sonko saying she is grateful for the offer but cannot accept the appointment because of “current family commitments,”.
In gazette notice number 4356 of 2019, Sonko appointed Dishon Peter Mulinge as the Chairman of the board, John Njoroge Mwinami , Irene Wanjiku Chege , Tom Luusa, Peter Muchiri , Moses Muratha Kamau , the County Chief Officer for Trade and the County Chief Officer, Security Compliance as members and Christine Mumbi Ireri as the Secretary to the Board.
The Nairobi City County Betting Control and Licnsing Board was established in 2014 to regulate betting and gaming activities in the City.
This was after an increase in the number of casinos in Nairobi.
