Residents of Githogoro slums on Friday held a public participation forum over need to upgrade the slum.
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi in collaboration with officials from Civil Society Urban Development Platform (CSUDP), the Urban Development Department of The University of Nairobi and Nairobi County Government met the residents on Friday.
The stakeholders want to put up a social hall, drainages and ablution blocks in the slum.
The groups also want to introduce income generating activities for the youth and women.
“We want to conserve the environment by carrying out solid waste management through a bio-digester, capacity building among the communities in addition to addressing cross cutting issues such as drugs and insecurity,” Wanyonyi said.
He said the move is aimed at ensuring Githogoro is accessible, residents can get medical services and that fire engines can be able to put out fires on time.
Civil Society Urban Development Platform (CSUDP), the Urban Development Department of the University of Nairobi and the Nairobi County Government are preparing a blue print to guide the implementation.
He also condemned land grabbers for grabbing school and hospital land.
He said the corrupt have developed the tendency to hide behind their tribes in the fight against graft.
Situated on both sides of the Northern by-pass linking Limuru and Thika roads, Githogoro is one of Nairobi’s grossly underserved informal settlements with an estimated population of 15,000 people.
