Kiambu County Assembly speaker Stephen Ndichu has mourned former cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae as a focused legislature.
He said Nyachae was serious and firm throughout his tenure as a public servant.
He first met Nyachae as a school boy when in lower primary at Githunguri, then in Kiambu District.
Ndichu said, “I knew him when l was in lower primary as our PC in Central Province. We sang for him once when he came to officially commission a public project in Githunguri.”
The speaker said he later met the then powerful Minister in parliament when he served as Juja MP during the late president Moi’s tenure.
“I was privileged to serve as MP for Juja with Hon Simeon Nyachae as MP for Nyaribari Chache from 1993-2002.” Ndichu wrote in his official Facebook page.
He said meeting Nyachae later in life as a legislature was baffling.
“I was overwhelmed and thrilled.” Ndichu said.
The speaker said as a minister for finance, Nyachae signed his papers for a duty-free vehicle.
“I have never forgotten that afternoon when l walked into his office at Treasury building and after explaining my mission, Simeon, in his true characteristic burst into loud laughter and told me, young man, get your papers.” Ndichu wrote.
He said they became good friends thereafter till they left parliament. “Living to 88years is a blessing” The speaker said.
