Kamiti CBO based in Kiambu has appealed for support in form of food donations and face masks from Kiambu County government and well-wishers to fight Covid-19.
Speaking to Hot News on phone after distributing food stuffs to residents of Ruturu village, the CBO Chairman Joseph Ndirangu said the County leadership has ignored Kamiti location.
Most residents are general laborer’s in coffee farms earning a daily wage of Sh 276.
He said forty families benefited from the donations coordinated by area chief Esther Kinyanjui at her office on Tuesday.
“I want to thank the administrator and police officers from Kamiti Corner police post for enforcement of social distancing during the donation exercise.” Ndirangu said.
He said there is need for urgent sensitization of residents about the pandemic that has hit the whole world.
“Locals must be educated about covid-19. We need sanitizers and face masks as well as piped water.” He said.
The chairman said the village, eight kilometers away from Kiambu county headquarters has no piped water.
Residents have for decades relied on water from Kamiti river for household use.
Gladwell Kinyanjui, a girl child welfare volunteer attended.
She called on individuals to protect themselves and their loved ones against Covid-19.
“Ruturu village has always been in my heart and thoughts. It is not my first time to be here.” She said.
