Kamiti village in Kiambu Subcounty that has never had piped water since independence is at a high risk of Covid-19 infections.
According to residents who sought anonymity for fear of intimidation, local leaders have done nothing to help them comply with the President’s Covid- 19 protocols.
The village is on Kiambu- Ruiru road adjacent to the proposed Tatu City.
Residents use unsafe water for domestic use.
This is despite piped water from Ng’ethu water treatment plant in Gatundu North traversing the village towards Nairobi.
A spot check by Hot News revealed lack of seriousness in fight against Covid-19 in the President’s home County.
Hot News found an empty 200-liter plastic tank put strategically on a roadside where residents are supposed to wash their hands.
It has been put by Kiambu Water and Sewerage Company.
“Please wash your hands here to prevent the spread of Corona virus.” These are the words emblazoned on the plastic tank.
A young boy who is a resident said, ” Volunteers fetch water from the river and empty it into the plastic tank so that people can wash their hands,”
There is no indication that the hand cleaning point has been in use.
Addressing the Nation from State House on Saturday, Uhuru castigated Siaya leaders for doing little in fighting Covid-19.
He accused them of only setting aside ten beds for isolation for Covid-19 patients.
