Governor Anne Kananu;s reign at City Hall is turning out to be chaotic.
In Mid-February, social media was awash with reports of Governor Anne Kananu’s associates being arrested in Dubai with shs 500 million that they could not explain the source.
Those allegedly arrested were Allan Igambi, Winnie Gathangu, Martha Wangari, and Daniel Nguru – who are all senior Nairobi County officials and close associates of Governor Ann Kananu .
During the particular week, calls and messages to their phones went answered.
They were allegedly nabbed after picking up the colossal kickback which they intended to wire to Nairobi to help Kananu in her campaigns.
She wants to retain her seat.
The reports fizzled out after several online users were threatened and asked to delete the posts.
However, the whereabouts of the four Senior County officers remain unknown.
Some of the officials who were arrested have had their phones switched off.
Last week, a Businessman who is a key supplier to the County Government of Nairobi travelled to Dubai to help the four.
Insiders told Hot News that the trip was meant to do “damage control”
The businessman told Hot News he was in Dubai for five days but refused to divulge what he had gone to do.
He has since returned to Nairobi and has been spotted driving around in his high end fuel guzzlers.
It’s not clear what actions Interpol took against the four and efforts to get information from them have been futile.
The arrested officers were at pains to explain the source and purpose of the huge amount of money they were attempting to wire to Nairobi.
The Police in Dubai locked them up.
According to multiple sources at City Hall, the officials, close associates of Governor Ann Kananu have been running a syndicate that demands kickbacks from county contractors for tender awards and also advance payment before their cheques are processed for payment.
The arrest of the four has opened a can of worms on the dealings of Ann Kananu whose office has been allocated shs 2.5 billion for the period ending June 2022 for administrative functions only.
Prior to the arrest of the four, detectives are reported to have received numerous complains of extortion and irregular contract awards and have so far established a channel of money transfers that puts Governor Kananu right in the middle of the whole mess.
Investigators believe the Ksh 500M collected by Kananu’s proxies was a kickback payment from a businessman dealing in supply of medical equipment’s.
The cash was reportedly meant to have the Governor safeguard the continuity and prompt payment of the man’s company that has engaged in unscrupulous medical equipment supplies to Nairobi and other Counties.
Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu Karanja and his Utalii counterpart Wilson Ongele Ochola have also accused the Governor of incompetence.
“The Governor is doing nothing. The interests of City residents have been thrown under the table and they are on their own. Kananu is the most incompetent leader we have ever seen,” the two said outside City Hall.
Since assuming office, Kananu’s administration has been famed for paying a few suppliers who are close to her millions of cash and leaving out the majority .
