A section of residents of Clay City have protested a club they claim is operational despite a presidential directive to close all bars.
This was announced last Friday by President Uhuru Kenyatta among other measures following a third wave that has led to a surge of Covid 19 positive cases in the country.
The President announced a partial lockdown affecting five counties.
They include Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos and Nakuru.
Club Wasafi has been operational despite a directive to have all bars closed in Nairobi.
“It is business as usual just like nothing is happening.” said a resident who sought anonymity for fear of intimidation.
A spot Check by Hot News on Tuesday mid-morning found patrons busy drinking alcohol at the club located at Clay City estate along the Thika Superhighway.
Residents told Hot News the club is owned by a couple who are police officers.
“We are not against private business, but the law must be followed. Community health must be a priority to everyone. The owners say they are untouchable”. a resident said.
Hot News could not independently confirm claims that the owners of the club are a traffic policeman based in Nairobi while the wife is an officer at the National Intelligence Service.
The couple did not respond to queries by Hot News regarding the allegations.
They did not respond to text messages sent to them.
