Embakasi Ward MCA Michael Ogada Okumu has joined the race to unseat Babu Owino from the Embakasi parliamentary seat.
Ogada served as Councilor in the defunct Nairobi City County Council and is the current MCA for Embakasi Ward.
During Governor Kidero’s administration, Ogada chaired the powerful Budget and Appropriation Committee.
The committee oversees the budget making process and allocation of cash to each sector.
This was when the ODM wing had the majority at City Hall.
When Sonko was elected Governor, Oganda was the chairman of the powerful and influential Public Accounts Committee which oversights the executive.
Currently, he is a member of the finance, budget, and appropriation committee.
Last week, Ogada addressed his constituents and vowed to unseat Babu Owino.
“You just need the love of God to win in politics. Make sure that people love you. Let people love you till the last day,” Ogada told his constituents.
On the other hand, Babu Owino who took over from John Ogutu Omondi has unleashed his “social media goons” who are out to disparage anyone intending to challenge him.
However, Ogada’s supporters and sycophants have also vowed to ensure he wins the seat in 2022 by whichever means.
“If it’s not Ogada. No one else. Ogada must be the MP in 2022,” his sycophants chanted.
Embakasi East was split from the larger Embakasi Constituency in Nairobi.
The larger Embakasi had a total of 150,000 registered voters in 2007.
Melitius Mugabe Were was elected MP in 2007.
He was killed outside his gate in Woodley estate in March 2008.
Insiders say the MP was killed because of political reasons whereas others say it was because of a “love triangle”.
Ferdinand Waititu took over as the MP until 2012 when it was split.
The constituency was split into Embasi East, West, South, North, and Central.
