Edward Gichana has replaced Jacob Ngwele as the Nairobi City County Assembly clerk.
His name was tabled in the Assembly and approved by unanimously in a virtual session.
Since the inception of the County governments in 2013, Ngwele had never been formally appointed as the Clerk.
MCAs resolved to kick Ngwele out after they said that his name has never been tabled in the Assembly for approval.
Speaker Beatrice Elachi said that she was not part of the recruitment process because Ngwele had sued her.
Elachi and Ngwele fell out and have been embroiled in nasty fights for the last three years.
“Edward Gichana emerged position 1 with 79.1. Gad Awuonda position 2 with 69.1,” she said.
They were followed by Sammy Kiptoo, Ngige Gitau, Mbugua Kabiro Crispin, Joseph Lemakulol and Ibrahim Ali.
Earlier on Thursday, Elachi said Ngwele is no longer the Clerk and that he should stop saying that the Central Bank only recognizes him as the signatory to the Assembly’s IFMIS and accounts.
Ngwele’s tenure at City Hall had been rocked by fist fights, bad blood and constant bickering between him and MCAs.
His allies had vowed to shoot down the report recommending Gichana as the Clerk.
