Residents of Nairobi and their elected leaders have been urged to embrace the Nairobi regeneration committee tasked with improving the image and status of the capital.
Mount Kenya Youth Caucas chairman Linford Mutembei said the committee that was formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta will help restore the city’s lost glory.
He spoke to Hot News during an interview in Nairobi.
Uhuru formed the task force in 2018 after a public outcry regarding how the Nairobi County Government under the leadership of former Governor Evans Kidero carried its business.
The Kidero administration was characterized by poor service delivery in the City.
Poor roads, uncollected garbage, constant traffic snarl ups are some of the reasons that made residents unhappy.
Mutembei said the team comprising different stakeholders under the leadership of Governor Mike Sonko has rehabilitated most of access roads in Nairobi Estates.
“Most of the roads that were impassable are now in use. We are happy with the work of Kenya Urban Roads Authority which is part of the agencies that will make the president’s dream come true.” Mutembei told Hot News.
He asked KURA’s director general engineer Silas Kinoti and his team to remain focused.
The stakeholders in the committee headed by tourism CS Najib Balala include officials from the Nairobi County government and the national government.
The team focuses on several projects including information and communication technology, infrastructure, transport, land issues, environment management among others.
