The Nairobi County Assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele’s office was broken into on Sunday afternoon.
According to eye witnesses, crucial documents were carted away.
Laptops and several computers were also stolen.
The Clerk is the accounting officer of the Assembly.
Its suspected the break-in is to conceal graft that has been going on at the Assembly.
Its not clear how the theft was carried out yet City Hall is one of the crucial Government Installations and all entries are manned by armed Police officers from the Security of Government Buildings Unit.
The elite unit drawn from the Administration Police Service provides security to government buildings, cash in transit and Private firms.
Most Bodygurds are drawn from this unit.
City Hall is also always guarded by County Askaris.
“The theft happened at 1pm on Sunday. A county Assembly staff, Nancy Mutai the Principal Human Resource Officer and a Sergeant at Arms Rashid Senje were arrested after the break -in. They were taken to Central Police Station,” said an MCA who sought anonymity.
Clerk Jacob Ngwele dismissed the incident as fake news.
“That’s fake news. Those are lies concocted by Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok and his group,” Ngwele told Hot News.
The incident comes two days after the ouster of Matopeni MCA Abdi Guyo as the Majority leader.
Speaker Beatrice Elachi also returned to City Hall after a year.
She had been impeached by MCA’s but later obtained a court order
Guyo led a section of MCA’s in blocking her.
Governor Mike Sonko said Guyo has been undermining his leadership.
He wants Guyo replaced with Maringo/Hamza MCA Mark Ndung’u.
Guyo and a section of MCAs are opposed to Speaker Beatrice Elachi setting foot at City.
However, Guyo has beat a hasty retreat and said he is not opposed to Elachi.
“Has Elachi ever set foot at City Hall? No one is opposed to her coming back as the Speaker,” Guyo told Citizen TV on Friday.
Elachi told the Media at City Hall on Wednesday that should anything happen to her-Guyo should be blamed.
Guyo on the other hand has claimed his life is in danger.
Jubilee Chairman Raphael Tuju has summoned the MCAs for a meeting on Wednesday to resolve the standoff.
However, social media was full of reports that Police are looking for Abdi Guyo and Former Acting Speaker Chege Mwaura in connection with break -in.
