Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok;s dream of Impeaching Governor Sonko has turned out to be a “bad dream” for him.
This is after 115 MCAs showed up at State House Nairobi and were told not to go ahead with the planned impeachment.
The MCAs called off the impeachment.
Speaking after the meeting, Roysambu MCA Peter Warutere said the meeting with the President focused on service delivery.
“We had a fruitful meeting with the President. It was about the agenda of Nairobi. 115 MCAs were present. It was a good gesture from the President, and he insisted on Nairobi moving forward. We all agreed we won’t impeach Governor Sonko,” Warutere said.
At least two-thirds of MCAs must support an impeachment motion in order to bundle the Governor out of office.
82 MCAs are needed to impeach Governor Sonko and since 115 have been told not to impeach him, then the motion is dead.
Nairobi has 122 MCAs.
Imwatok has insisted that he will not back down on the plans.
However, if he doesn’t drop the motion, he may find himself a lone ranger.
Embakasi MCA Michael Ogada and Karen MCA David Mberia.also want Sonko to be impeached.
