Nairobi region prisons boss has been recognized by the Ombudsman-Commission for Administrative Justice for her tireless efforts to transform correctional facilities in the country.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Olivia Obell has been awarded Head of State Commendation by the Commission for Administrative Justice.
The award was presented to her by Commissioner General of prisons Wycliffe Ogallo at Magereza House on Thursday.
“The destiny is in the hands of the Almighty Father in heaven but we cannot stop dreaming big. I am humbled by this recognition. I will remain a servant to inmates and safeguard their rights.” Obell said.
She promised to remain focused to change the face of correctional facilities not just in Nairobi but countrywide.
Obell has worked as an officer in charge at Kiambu Prison, Kamiti Medium Prison and Langata Women Prison prior to her promotion as the commander of correctional facilities in Kenya’s capital.
She was key in several efforts to reform prisons among them the introduction of “remote parenting,” whereby inmates are allowed to mingle freely with their relatives and catch up with news back at home.
