The Principal Secretary, State Department for Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga is happy with the progress in the Housing sector.
On Friday, the PS said he is excited that his department has completed projects in Eastlands, Nairobi, Ngong and several others across the Country.
“Gikomba Quarry road market phase 1 development nearing completion. Should be completed in 3 months. Perhaps the most difficult of all projects we have implemented, but one fulfilling as well. Gikomba has literally got no space at all even to put up a site office,” Hinga posted on his twitter handle.
The PS said his focus is to build 500,000 affordable houses, Mass Rapid Transit and Urban Infrastructure and ensure the Kazi Mtaani project reaches all Kenyan youths.
Hinga has been highlighting the departments achievements in several mainstream media platforms and social media.
“Kazi Mtaani today. We had 61 garbage collection trucks in all the 11 sub-counties of Nairobi. Here are some pics,” he posted.
The PS said the Ngong Market, progress is on schedule and the department targets to complete works by August 31, 2020.
“Of the 7 mega markets we have undertaken in the last 2 years in the metropolis, this one ranks very high, it will transform and redefine Ngong Town for years to come,” Hinga said.
However, the PS complained that the department is facing several challenges where traders have encroached on road reserves and drainages built on fire hydrants.
“That’s why we have to build vertically to accommodate more traders. Under Eastlands Regeneration masterplan is Gikomba Masterplan which we are implementing gradually,” he said.
Hinga took time to engage with Kenyans on Social media and get their opinions.
Citizen TV senior Editor Linus Kaikai posted.
“Ndugu PS, there is nothing like ‘strategically located land’. Deliberate developmental intervention such as access, power, water etc converts even bare land to ‘strategic land’. Las Vegas is a desert city. Habaswein, Loyangalani, Mosiro can be made strategic for business,”Kaikai said.
Several other residents praised the PS for the good work.
“Good work,” Renowned blogger Robert Alai praised the PS
