Two junior police officers who were found guilty of manslaughter by a high court in Nairobi were on Thursday jailed for seven years each.
On May 11,2021, Lady Justice Stella Mutuku found William Chirchir and Godfrey Kirui Guilty of manslaughter’
They had pleaded with Justice Stellah Mutuku to hand them a non-custodial sentence.
They were jointly charged with the murder of Janet Wangui Waiyaki on June 11, 2018 but they denied the charge.
Waiyaki was inside a private car with her nephew Bernard Chege during the 10:30 AM incident at City Park.
The families of both victims were represented in court by the International Justice Mission (IJM-Kenya).
The organization is pursuing other cases in court among them a case in Naivasha where a fisherman was shot dead by a police officer attached to anti- stock theft unit in 2014.
Evans Maliecha Wiyema was charged with the murder of the fisherman Moses Kinyanjui Wanyoike on July 24,2014

IJM Kenya Country Director Benson Shamala was not immediately available for comment following the judgement.
