At least 2,000 University students were left stranded in Nairobi CBD on Thursday evening after attending a political meeting hosted by Nairobi Gubernatorial aspirant Richard Ngatia.
The event was held at St Andrews Church in Nairobi.
The students told Hot News that they had been promised shs 5,000 each.
However, after the event, they said that Ngatia left the venue thus leaving them stranded.
The students were from Kenyatta University, University of Nairobi, Catholic University, KCA, Multimedia University, Jommo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, St Pauls, Co-operative University and KEMU.
They said that after learning that they will be given shs 5,000 each, they flooded the venue.
The students threatened to lynch members of the Ngatia secretariat led by Muchiri.
Muchuiri was forced to give shs 500 each to Kenyatta University students, University of Nairobi and Catholic University.
Other Universities including JKUAT, Multimedia University, St. Paul’s, Co-operative University, and KCA among others got nothing.
This left them stranded since they had no transport back home.
“How are we going home? We were called here. We were promised shs 5,000. We came in large numbers. Now they have run away from us. Some people are going to Githurai, others Mathare. We are stranded. If we can get a Good Samaritan to come give us transport, we will appreciate. Otherwise we will be forced to walk home,” they said.
Others said “I am a disappointed man. The day ended well but we haven’t been paid. It’s disappointing,” they said.
Security guards at St Andrews PCEA church were forced to eject the students from the Church premises.
“I have spent all my cash that could push me up to the next weekend for bus fare- only to be left here with nothing. I have no transport to take me back to school,” said Stephen Wesonga, a student from JKUAT.
