Police officers on night Patrol in Githurai Kimbo shot and killed a KDF officer who was allegedly robbing residents.
According to a police report filed at Githurai Kimbo station, a shooting incident was reported at 4am on Tuesday morning at Mwihoko, Kenyalite area.
The report said Officers on night Patrol received information that there was a person along Mwihoko -Githuai road robbing motorists.
The OB number 4/25/2/2020 said when the police officers rushed to the scene, they encountered a lone gunman armed with a G3 rifle and challenged him to surrender.
“In return, he shot at the officers and injured Sergeant James Partoip at the ankle area. Officers managed to fatally injure the unknown gangster,” the OB read.
The police said a G3 riffle s/no 7093454, butt number 127 (TPT) with 2 magazines and 28 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
They also added that a KDF identity card bearing the names of one Edwin Lemiso Sirinkit , service number 152074 were recovered.
The OB said the injured officer was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital and is in stable condition.
According to residents, they have been robbed multiple times by the man.
Some said the KDF soldier usually puts on a Maasai shuka to camouflage.
Residents alleged he has been robbing them before sneaking back into Kahawa Garrison.
A witness told Hot News that heavy gun fire was heard between “KDF and police” lasting for more than one hour.
“The KDF officers wanted to secure the body of their colleague. They probably did not want the police to take away his body to cover up the slain officer.” Said a witness who sought anonymity.
However, Police said they took the body to City Mortuary.
The incident happened near PEFA church next to Kahawa Garrison.
By press time, Kiambu County Police Commander Ali Nuno had not responded to our queries.
KDF spokesman Col Paul Njuguna did not answer text messages nor pick calls when asked about the incident.
“I apologize for not picking your call, please send a text message,” read an automatic generated message from Col Njuguna’s phone.
