Close to 300 police officers in Central region have been transferred to various counties in the region while some have been transferred outside the region despite of ongoing Covid-19 protocols.
Some officers who spoke to Hot News in confidence faulted the move saying it was exposing them to Covid 19 infection.
On June 6 President Uhuru Kenyatta extended restrictions of movements in and out of Nairobi Metropolitan Area for 30 days.
Parts of Kiambu county including Kiambu town, Rironi,Thika and parts of Kajiado county including Ngong and Kiserian form Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
A police “signal” seen by Hot News and addressed to Central region county police commanders requires that all the affected officers to report to their new stations by latest July 1.
The letter dated June 19 signed by Central region police boss Patrick Lumumba is copied to deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Service.
It has been addressed to Nyeri, Murang’a,Kiambu,Nyandarua and Kirinyaga police chiefs.
The letter reads in part, “The following officers should report to their new station latest on 26th June,2020 without fail to which action will be taken against them by stopping their salary.”
A traffic officer from Nyeri county Frank Mugendi is expected to report to Kiserian Police Station by Friday, June 26.
Police spokesman Charles Owino and Patrick Lumumba had not responded to our enquiries by the time of going to press.
