Bishop Edward Mwai has called on the government and politicians to stop rebuking leaders of Pentecostal churches whenever there is public outcry against a single church leader.
He said each religious leader should carry his “own cross”.
Mwai is the general overseer of Jesus Winner Ministry churches with its headquarters in Roysambu,Nairobi.
JWM has branches across the country.
The cleric has called on the government to penalize specific individuals who break the law in the name of “serving God”.
“I should be punished as pastor Mwai but not as a group if I break the law in the process of serving God.” Mwai told Hot News.
He spoke to Hot News in response to the recent accusations leveled against non-mainstream churches after a family accused “prophet” David Owuor of exploiting their sister.
The family of lawyer Jane Njagi has accused the self proclaimed prophet for allegedly brainwashing the advocate and taking over control of her apartment in Nairobi’s Riverside Drive.
Prophet Owuor allegedly converted the apartment into a church office.
Njagi before joining Owuor’s Repentance and Holiness Ministry worked as a partner at J.M Njagi advocates.
Mwai accused politicians of double standards saying that they run to Pentecostal churches during the campaigns only to turn against the churches after elections.
“I am aware of sad incidents including fights and rape that happen in mainstream churches but no one talks publicly about it,” he said.
He said Pentecostal churches have been a blessing to the country and Kenyans at large.
According to his followers, the Bishop who is a prophet has in the past predicted major events in Kenya that came to pass.
His follower’s say he prophesied among other prophesies the collapse of Hague based cases that both president Uhuru and DP Ruto were facing.
The duo were charged with various human rights abuse cases during the 2007/2008 election clashes where hundreds of people died while others were forcefully displaced.
On January 1 2019 Mwai reportedly prophesied that there would be a lot of both road and air accidents, fires and killings among other calamities.
On the same day he called on his followers to pray against the bad prophesies.
He told Hot News that some of his predictions have come to pass following the crash of a Nairobi bound Ethiopian commercial plane on Sunday morning that killed all the 157 people on board just six minutes after taking off from Addis Ababa.
A chopper belonging to deputy president William Ruto crashed last week in Lake Turkana killing all five on board.
Mwai said God reveals to His people both good and bad things so that they can pray more and believe in him.
