ODM leader Raila Odinga has asked City MCAs allied to ODM not to take part in the planned impeachment of Governor Sonko.
In a letter written by ODM Nairobi Chairman George Aladwa and addressed to Minority leader David Mberia, Raila said that “ODM is not supporting the move”.
Aladwa said in the letter that there is talk of ODM MCAs planning to support their Jubilee counterparts to impeach Governor Sonko.
“I have been directed by Party leader RT Hon Raila Odinga to advise that the Party is not supporting the move. As such, you are hereby directed not to vote and or append your signatures on any proposed impeachment unless advised otherwise,” Aladwa said in the letter.
The letter was received by Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi, Minority leader David Mberia and Governor Sonko.
A few MCAs have been scheming to impeach Governor Sonko.
Sonko was arrested last year and charged in court.
He is out on bond.
Insiders at City Hall told News that the few Reps who want to impeach Sonko are simply out to “extort” money from the Governor.
“Sonko cannot be impeached. What wrong has he done? There is nothing wrong he has done. His tribulations are political. No MCA in his right mind can impeach Sonko. The two or three people are broke and want some little money so that they stop making noise,” said the Source who requested anonymity.
